Carole
Lesley
Carole
Lesley was an actress signed to Associated British Pictures who
did a small amount of films in the mid fifities to early sixties
before disappearing and eventually commiting suicide in 1974. As
an image she has been informing Harvey's work for a while now, although
he is not sure why. Certainly it is not the tragic element of the
story that interests him, quite the opposite in fact.
Lesley
was one of those actresses who looked different everytime she was
photographed despite attempts to turn her into the British Marilyn
(along with many other young actresses of the period). Harvey uses
the subject as a still life painter would use a bowl of fruit, although
he would admit if pushed that it is difficult not to be sidetracked
by the face. For someone who graced many magazine covers of the
time, it is now very difficult to find any information on her; there
is probably more here than anywhere else on the web.
Before
the name you see above, she worked as a glamour model using the
name Leslie Carol. One of a series of pocket books was devoted to
her which is produced in it's entirety below. Many thanks to Richard
Jackson from the Penetration website for finding the 3D copy of
the booklet. Any other information, images etc. would also be gratefully
received by the artist.
